Add accounts (or anything)

In Gem, tap Settings
Tap "Record details"
Tap "Advanced" on the bottom
Under "Collections", tap "New..."
Give it a name, like "Accounts"
Go back to Settings main screen, you should see "Accounts" below Categories, tap it and create as many accounts as you like

Auto-record expenses when you tap-to-pay

With iOS 17, Gem can automatically log your expenses when you tap to pay.

Open Shortcuts app, tap "Automation" on the bottom
Tap "+" button, scroll down and choose "Transaction"
Choose your card if needed
Scroll down, choose "Run Immediately", tap "Next"
Choose “Create Note” action (there’s a bug requiring doing this)
Tap “x” button to remove “Create note” action
Tap “+ Add action” and choose "Import transaction" from Gem
Tap "Amount", choose "Shortcut input" from the suggestion bar (scroll to find it), tap
Tap "Note", choose "Shortcut input" again, tap “done”, then tap "Shortcut input" on the card and choose "Merchant
Tap "Done" on top right, that’s it!

Tip: Found an entry with a funny merchant, like “Venue DZ MX”? Set its category to “Coffee” and let Gem repeat that for new entries from that merchant. Gem creates import rules you can edit and remove, see Settings > Import & data > Import rules

Choose "Accurate" under "Amount style"

Can I share Gem with someone?

My widget isn't updating

Try closing Gem and opening it again (swipe up from screen bottom to kill Gem)

Can I connect my bank or credit account?

Nope. Gem is a very small business that cannot afford the costs required to offer such reliable & secure service

Known issues (April 2024)

Transfers cannot be edited or set to repeat. Sorry about it (please delete and re-create them)
Transfers: Gem doesn't allow choosing what set of accounts you want to use to record "from" or "to". That's being fixed soon, sorry
Week titles sometimes aren't appearing, you can scroll the list a bit to make them appear
"Tracking" floating thingy sometimes collapses even when not intended
